Instant Supply Chain - for Disaster Management?

Last 4 weeks has seen tremendous activity for Tsunami. We have had LTTE accusing Sri Lankan government of using the aid money for arms, we have had Sport & Cultural events for fund raising, we have read blogs of people visiting and working at affected areas. We became aware of government initiatives as well as challenges in meeting such an situation.

Probabily we did not see much on strategies to manage such situations at social process level, here is one excellent article for someone interested to see how Supply Chain Management can be applied for such a calamity....

Beyond Old clothes

As most of you would know that now, relief efforts are being channelized to next level of support to bring back life, lets keep devoting our little time and attention to support the rebuilding process.

Its painful, its often personally tiresome and inconvenient physically & emotionally.

Frankly, I am lagging in my own efforts to share information to mobilize the support due to professional and personal committments.

Taking this moment to share with you that Sify.com contributions till last week for relief fund stood at Rs.1 Cr besides many of Sify employees working at camps.

Do join this movement at by making your next contributions at Sify.com

Take care, stay in touch,

Diary of a Volunteer!!

Morning I called my friend to wish him happy new year and learnt that he is in a relief camp. Well he is not an exception, Kiruba also been there on 31st Dec'04... I rate this posting as a good read for any one keen to be part of the rebuiding process.

some comments taken from the post -

"There definitely is some hyperactivity in terms of relief activities which is a heartening sign."

"The government too swung into action. They dropped these sacks of rice and new dresses for men and women. They did this for every single hamlet that we passed by."

"This is definitely not a time for politics and I saw this guy paint the colours of a political party, obviously to please the politicians who were expected to visit the place. "

"While returning back to the city, we came across this group of friends who had put in their own money to buy food items for villagers. They said that they preferred to serve the people directly instead of giving money to other organisations. Their enthusiasm was infectious. "

-----------

Well morning when I was speaking to another friend of mine, she also felt that lot of help & support is coming....I still wonder if it is enough? Will this enthu sustain? What else can i do? .....lets stay connected for re-building.

Wishing Safe, Healthy, Happy, Inspiring and Memorable year ahead....

Need utensils, clothes, medicine & also Parents!!

Well we all know the damage which has occured across the globe, I read some where that the Tsunami will not have have long term impact on the Financials of countries involved, even though it has shattered lives of millions.

I am here to do my bit, share the info on what can be done to help people who need help,

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Chennai is working closely with affected people and seeking things like - old utensils, clothes (separately for boys, girls, ladies and gentelman), food grains, soaps, beddings, etc.

Red Cross is providing medical assistance to people and they are accepting payment vai cheques.

Rotary is also providing assistance in outskirts as well.

Many people are working to provide help and you are most welcome to join, check out http://www.kiruba.com/ to know what some others are doing and do contribute your bit,

I wonder if there are some of us willing to be parents for those left orphaned!!
